Radio Reports
Overseas Dispatch for Air America Radio Feb. 17, 2005 In the last several years, Europe has made significant advances in its own political and economic evolution. The introduction of a single currency throughout most of Europe along with the eastern expansion of Europe’s borders has dramatically changed the European political landscape. Mark Stenzler met with
Andreas Gross, a member of the Swiss parliament and a leading figure in
several European wide democracy-building initiatives. Mark spoke with him in a café in the Swiss
city of Delemont and asked him how the policies of
the Bush Administration have affected European political attitudes towards
the United States. Discuss this report and

Overseas Dispatch for Air America Radio Feb. 3, 2005 On February 3, 2005, the
day after the president gave his State of the Union address, Mark Stenzler sat
down with four Americans residing in the Geneva area to talk about their
impressions of Bush's speech. • Dr. Daniel Warner, Deputy Director at The Graduate Institute of
International Studies in Geneva, Switzlerland • Jack Pogany, International Media Consultant who has lived in
Europe for 12 years. • Caitlin Kraft Buchman, Writer • Norman Rolnick, Retired businessman who
has lived in Geneva since 1963. Overseas Dispatch for Air America Radio Jan. 20, 2005 On January 20, 2005 while
the Republicans were celebrating the 2nd inauguration of George W. Bush, 40
or so Americans residing in Geneva, Switzerland gathered together for a
counter-inaugural dinner sponsored by the local chapter of Democrats Abroad. During the course of the
evening, there was much discussion about what liberals and progressives need
to do in order to better position themselves and their arguments in getting
their points across in public debate. George Lakoff’s
book, Don't Think of an Elephant,
was mentioned and it quickly led into a discussion of just how important the
role of language can be, which words are chosen, when discussing political
ideas. Warren Furth,
an American citizen who was a former Assistant Director-General for the World
Health Organization and currently a Vice Chair of Democrats Abroad
Switzerland, in Charge of Communications had done some thinking about how
language can be used as a tool to influence how people will think about
current political issues.
